Collect Feedback From Your Most Engaged Readers On Autopilot

Step 1: Duplicate our Tally form template

Click on the Use this template button on the top right corner to duplicate the template to your own Tally account

Once you’re done duplicating the Tally form template, move on to the next step!

Step 2: Personalize your Tally form

As we mentioned in our email, this form contains 2 questions. And depending on the “rating link” your reader clicks on, they will be asked just one or both questions (and the ask will have a slightly different language).
Luckily, you don’t have to worry about setting up the form conditional logic because we already baked in the form template!
We do encourage you, however, to review and tweak the language we used for the copy so it sounds like you and it fits the specific constraints of your newsletter.
Make sure to also change the title of the form!

Once you’re done editing and personalizing your new newsletter feedback form, move on to the next step!

Step 3: Connect your Tally form to a database/spreadsheet

Once you’re done personalizing your form, click on the Publish button at the top

Click on Integrations

Connect your form to your preferred database or spreadsheet tool.
(Before completing this step, you will need to create a table in Notion, Airtable, or Google Sheets that has a field or column for each of the questions in the form: email, rating, campaign, improvement ideas, and topic ideas.)

Once you’re done connecting your form to your database/spreadsheet, move on to the next step!

As mentioned in our email, we want to give our readers 3 rating options:
  • 5 stars
  • 3 stars
  • 1 star
And we need a slightly different link for each of these options. So let’s create them.
Go back to Tally and click on Share
Copy the regular “share link” of your form
Open a new browser tab and paste the link there (don’t hit enter!)
At the end of the link add the following snippet:
If you use ConvertKit
If you use MailChimp
If you use ActiveCampaign
If you use any other email marketing tool
At this time, you can only use hidden fields to “grab” your form responders’ email addresses with ConvertKit, MailChimp, or ActiveCampaign
After appending the snippet, copy the full link, and paste it 3 times in any note-taking app (if you downloaded this checklist, you can use this document!)
Your link should look something like this:{{subscriber.email_address}}
Replace the “x” after “rating=” with “5”, “3”, and “1” (one different number in each link). Your links should look something like this:{{subscriber.email_address}}{{subscriber.email_address}}{{subscriber.email_address}}
Create a quick blurb prompting your readers to rate your newsletter + 1 snippet for each “rating link” using text and emojis. Here’s the format we use:

Add the correct “rating link” to each snippet:

Finally, paste the whole blurb with all the hyperlinked “rating options” and send yourself a test email using your email marketing tool.
Once you receive the email, click on each link, and complete the form the 3 times to make sure it’s all working nicely!
Then go back to Tally, click on Submissions, and you should be able to see your 3 test submissions

If you’ve completed all the previous steps successfully, then your links are ready to go. Just add them to your newsletter template (most email marketing tools let you create email templates so you don’t have to manually add any “staple” parts of your newsletter format every time you create a new email).

And that’s it - you’re all set to start collecting feedback & content ideas on autopilot!
